My Endorsements for the South Carolina Primary

Democratic Gubernatorial Candidate James Smith

Since the June primary for the midterm election is rapidly approaching in South Carolina (it will be held on June 12th), it is time for me to announce my endorsements at the state and national levels. In a state like South Carolina where Republicans dominate all facets of our government, the primary is basically the general election for some races because some seats run unopposed by Democrats. That makes this election all the more crucial. Without further ado, here are my endorsements:
Congress:

-Republican Primary: Mark Sanford. He is a solid pick for the Republicans. He is a moderate who does not mindlessly throw himself behind President Trump like his competition, Katie Arrington. He supports Trumps economic policies with few exceptions but also knows to look out for the best interests of the Lowcountry by opposing Trumps offshore drilling proposal which would have negatively effected South Carolinas coastline. He is by no means perfect, but if the Republicans want to win in November, Katie Arrington is not going to be able to deliver for them.

-Democratic Primary: Joe Cunningham. I like Joe a lot and he is running a solid campaign. The energy he brings to the table as a young and innovative candidate is turning heads and makes him the best competition against the Republicans. Toby Smith has good policies, but she does not have a strong campaign that could defeat somebody like Mark Sanford. His energy separates him from his competition and I support his policies wholeheartedly.

 Governor
Republican Primary: Kevin Bryant. This was a harder decision to make because the GOP primary for Governor has devolved into a contest to see who can be the most like Trump. I knew that Yancey McGill was not qualified for office because he can barely make a coherent statement without losing track of what he is saying. I knew I couldnt back John Warren because I think he is a robot. He speaks in a monotone voice and brings no energy to the table, as well as no original ideas. He is the most unnecessary candidate in the race. Catherine Templeton is the energetic version of Warren who is running a strong campaign. But I cannot get past her conservative buzzsaw nickname which annoys me to no end. I also cannot stand Henry McMaster and a lot of Republicans and Democrats are dissatisfied with the job he has done. So, by process of elimination, I pick Kevin Bryant. He thinks for himself and while I find his policy on gun reform utterly ridiculous, he is a good guy and he has charisma.

Democratic Primary: James Smith. This was the hardest decision that I had to make when I looked ahead to June and it is a decision that I have been pondering for a few months. I decided last week that I support Smith for one reason that separates him from Phil Noble and Marguerite Willis: electability. Hes a moderate Democrat and if a Democrat is going to have a chance in a place like South Carolina, you cannot be too liberal. Willis and Noble are very liberal and would get destroyed by most of the Republican candidates in a general election. I like Noble a lot and I think he is the most down-to-earth candidate in the entire gubernatorial race, but his recent attacks over Smiths NRA rating, even after they were addressed and debunked by Smith, seemed desperate and left a bad taste in my mouth. Williss attacks on Smiths inability to create change in the legislature despite the fact that the legislature is Republican-held and calling Noble and his running mate losers along with claims that she is woke rubbed me the wrong way. I support Smith because he is a traditional Democrat who believes what I believe in and has the chance to win in November, unlike his competition.
Attorney General:
-Republican Primary: Not Alan Wilson. Vote for anybody else on the ballot except Alan Wilson. He is a part of the corruption probe in Columbia even though he claims to be anti-corruption.

I am taking a weeklong break from social media starting tomorrow morning so there will be no blog next week. If you need to reach me during that time, my email is gamblejacob305@gmail.com. Thats all for this and next week.
