The Fishy Whitefish Contract
The possibility of me applying to the College of Charleston died last night as I saw the photo of a student from the school dressing up as Freddie Gray and posing for photos with the caption, ur going to jail tonight. Freddie Gray was killed in police custody in Baltimore back in 2015 which sparked national outrage. President McConnell of the college would be wise to expel this student or he is going to receive a batch of angry emails from me. I hate this sort of insensitivity that mocks the suffering of people who have faced bitter evil and now have to endure the idiotic torment of a privileged white kid who does not know what empathy is or how to express it. Nobody would dress up as a victim of the Las Vegas shooting because it would be super offensive and disgusting. Dressing up as Freddie Gray is no different. I will be ripping up all of the letters and packets that the College of Charleston has sent me over the past few months and I would encourage my classmates to do the same. Am I being a little bit excessive in my criticism of the college? Yes. Do I care? No.
I have no tolerance for that kind of ignorance. I also crossed off the University of Oklahoma from my list in 2015 after a group of white fraternity students were recorded chanting, There will never be a n***** in SAE.
I do not just outright hate the College of Charleston, but the controversial nature of McConnell, who has vocally criticized the removal of the Confederate flag from the State House, and his lack of experience in higher education prior to being elected President of the college made me weary of the institution. This incident was simply the nail in the casket. And I am aware that the college has nothing to do with the incident. However, I do not want to go to a school with idiots like the kid I saw on CNN this morning. I already go to school with enough idiots as it is.
Tonights main story is about Puerto Rico and the controversial contract it made with the Whitefish Company to restore power to the island. On Sunday, Puerto Ricos governor, Ricardo Rossello, canceled the deal because of questions raised about the nature of the contract. Just months ago, Whitefish only had two full-time employees. How did such a small company from rural Montana obtain a contract to reconstruct an entire islands power grid? The town where this company originates just happens to be the hometown of Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke, a man who I have featured and criticized on this blog before. Its also slightly important to note that Zinke has direct connections to the company and that his son worked for them previously. Press Secretary Sarah Sanders denied any correlation between the coincidences last week. FEMA produced a report that slammed the contract which charges unreasonable prices for the project and would prevent any audits of the transactions that would occur under it. The agency even stated that they were considering refusing to help pay for the construction of the grid if the contract was not cancelled or altered.
The main question you might have while reading this is probably, Why does this matter?
I try to avoid mentioning our President on this blog but it is hard to ignore him in this situation. One of the most well-known catch phrases from Donald Trumps presidential campaign was, Drain the swamp!
This situation is evidence that he does not intend to drain any swamps and if he were to he would hire a relatively obscure company that happens to be from where one of his cabinet members lives. The contract on the swamp draining would include abnormally high costs for labor which would be shrugged off and not seen as a big deal.
The truth is that this controversy is no better than what the Clintons did in Haiti because in both cases, victims of a crisis were taken advantage of and a profit was made from their suffering. I have not seen any conspiracy videos from Info Wars questioning this electric deal, yet when news broke of the corruption within the Clinton Foundation, Alex Jones published multiple videos exposing her and her husband for corruption and repeatedly slamming her actions.
I do not see any outrage from most Republicans at this deal. I did not see any outrage from most Democrats when news of the Clinton Foundations lies became known. We are selectively angry when hear about corruption in our government. We downplay allegations when our party is the subject of scrutiny and scrutinize when our opponents party is accused of misconduct. We are hypocrites. Thats all for this week.

Here is the College of Charleston student I was talking about earlier. I think he should erase "Freddie Gray" and write "Stupid" instead. It's more accurate that way. |
