Sean Hannity is an Angry Man

When I tell you that its hard to find a story worth writing about that is not related to our president, I mean it. During my weekly sweep for possible stories earlier this evening I could not find one, not one single story that did not have the word Trump somewhere in the title or mentioned in the article. For a few moments, I debated giving up and calling it a night. But I cant give up or give in to covering He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. I will fight with every last brain cell of mine to not talk about You-Know-Who (unless of course he does something really crazy like last week).
It was at this point in the writing process where I thought to myself, What AM I going to write about? I sat in deep thought for about 5 minutes. So, if youre reading this feel free to pause here and go find a dog to pet or something and then come back
Assuming that you have completed petting the nearest dog or finished doing something else or maybe not pausing at all and just continuing to read on, I have found tonights subject.
Last Sunday on CBS This Morning, Ted Koppel, a long-time journalist and contributor to CBS, did a piece on how our country became so polarized and the reasoning behind it. As part of the piece, Koppel featured a discussion he had with Sean Hannity, a Fox News TV show host, about the media. During the interview, taped during Hannitys show, Hannity asked Koppel if he thought that his show and other shows similar to his were bad for America.
Koppel responded calmly with a firm, Yeah. When asked to follow up after Hannity described the response he gave as sad, Koppel explained, fighting multiple interruptions, You have attracted people who have determined that ideology is more important than facts. Not only is that one of the wisest statements Ive heard to describe the polarization of America right now, but it set Hannity off.
Since that interview ran on Sunday, Hannity spent both Monday and Tuesday lashing out at Koppel on his show surrounded by an audience of people who Koppel described during the interview. Hannity said that, Ted, you show in this clip, you are not a journalist. He also called the piece edited fake news and compared Koppel to Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton (evidently thats a major insult over at Fox).
I think its kind of ironic and hilarious that Hannity was one of the first users of the term snowflake to describe the protestors against our President, yet he is the one triggered by this whole event. Its that ignorant hypocrisy that just makes me happy to see at Fox News because it completely destroys their credibility. To show just how angered the network was about the CBS piece, Bill OReilly reiterated Hannitys insults at Koppel on his show The OReilly Factor and Michelle Malkin even went as far as to call Koppel ancient and the walking dead decrepit media elitist.
These insults inevitably backfired on Fox as now the CBS piece has received a lot more of attention because of Foxs anger at it. Before Hannity lost his cool over this whole thing, the CBS piece was not viral and had relatively little viewership. Now people want to see the interview between Koppel and Hannity because of the animosity surrounding it. Koppel has not responded to the elementary insults used against him, which I commend him for.

I think the main lesson to draw from this childish and petty incident is that both the left and the right are biased. Fox claims to be fair and balanced. Its not. Its staunchly conservative and tells conservatives what they want to hear, just as MSNBC tells liberals what they want to hear. Its ignorant to suggest that your side is not biased while pointing your finger at the opposition and calling them fake. Its kind of like noticing the speck in anothers eye before removing the speck from your own. The ability to concede when necessary is a trait that is absent in modern political discourse in our country. Maybe thats why we are so polarized.
