The Corruption Probe Here at Home

Image
Last week I went international and talked about the atrocities occurring in Somalia and Myanmar. Tonight, Im going to go local and talk about another atrocity of a different sort. This atrocity does not involve genocide or terrorism, but it does involve corruption and a breach of democracy. A few hours ago, former state representative Jim Harrison lost his law license amid a corruption probe within the South Carolina State House being investigated by the FBI. Harrison is one of five Republican representatives being investigated in a case that is expanding and extends to multiple branches of our state government. These House Republicans are being accused of accepting bribes from GOP strategist Richard Quinn and not disclosing the transaction on campaign disclosure forms. Harrison received $900,000 alone while a representative from Myrtle Beach supposedly received $300,000 from Quinn.             This probe, uncovered by my friend Wi...

Somalia Suffers, Myanmar Murders, America Shrugs

Before I get into tonights story, I would like to talk about YouTube for a second. There is a lot of anger within the community of creators that make up YouTube because of the companys hypocrisy in demonetizing videos. Following the Las Vegas massacre, Casey Neistat, a prominent creator on the platform with millions of subscribers (including myself), made a video detailing a fundraiser that he was creating to benefit the victims of the attack. In addition to the funds he collected from his audience, he pledged to donate all of the money generated through the videos ad revenue.             YouTube demonetized the video and when Neistat and others questioned the move, the company defended itself by citing a policy stating that any videos related to terrorism are to be demonetized. That rebuttal turned out to be false because Jimmy Kimmels monologue (uploaded on the same day) that focused entirely on the shooting remained monetized...

The Gridlock Over Bump Stocks

Before I get into tonights blog, I would like to take the time to say a few things. 1.      I forgot how good Eminem is at rhyming. 2.      The Vice President definitely wanted to watch the Colts play football on Sunday. 3.      Its not a good day to be an establishment Republican in Congress. 4.      Somebody needs to teach the President how to use air quotes.       Thats all I have to say. Tonights main story is about the NRA and their attempt to trick the American people. Stephen Paddock, the Las Vegas killer, turned his semi-automatic guns into fully automatic weapons using an accessory known as the bump stock. Bump stocks allow a semi-automatic rifle to mimic a machine gun by allowing the shooter to bump the trigger using the recoil of the gun. Anybody can buy a bump stock because they are not classified as a firearm. Automatic weapons are much more difficult to maintain and requi...

Las Vegas Needs to be Politicized

Tonights subject is something that I do not want to talk about. When I woke up on Monday morning and checked Facebook and learned about what happened in Las Vegas, I was numb to the fact that another mass shooting had occurred in our country. It did not even phase me. It has become such a common occurrence in our nation that it has become normal for American citizens to be gunned down by insane, evil killers.             The definition of insanity is doing something over and over again without changing anything and expecting a different outcome. We have not changed a single thing about our national gun laws since the Sandy Hook shooting in 2010. Since then, there have been 998 mass shootings in America. We could not even pass legislation that required universal background checks.             Our government tries so hard to prevent terrorist attacks by issuing travel bans, formi...
